Ask any non-techie to list down what scares them the most about A.I. and the topic will almost always come around to “robots taking over the world”.

While sentient robots seem like something far in the future and more like the plot of a movie we have seen countless times before; there is something much closer ( and scarier ) and those are autonomous weapons driven by A.I. technologies or “killer robots” as they are sometimes called

What are Autonomous weapons?

Referred to as weapons that can target and engage with enemies without any human intervention; autonomous weapons are similar to armed drones but on a much more advanced level.

Yes, this sounds suspiciously like the plot of “The Terminator” or “The Matrix” but is very much a reality.

These weapons use A.I. technologies such as facial recognition to identify and eliminate targets on the battlefield without any human input in how these decisions are made.

Is this the mother lode of bad ideas?
