2022 was a bit of a wakup call for tech professionals

The massive layoffs woke everybody up to two major facts:

• The tech industry is not immune to recession and the massive hiring which started during 2020 is grinding to a halt
• If you are on a sponsored work visa then you are at risk of losing your job AND the life you have built due to no fault of your own

Just ask the thousands of awesomely skilled people in the US who were on H1B visas and got laid off recently

Their entire lives which they probably spent years building all turned upside down which frankly drives me crazy when I think about it
